Like any red-blooded American kid, Jimmy MacDonald is off to summer camp this week. Of course, Jimmy isn't your regular kid and this isn't your run-of-the-mill summer camp. Jimmy is among a select group of youngsters at the USA Cycling's Regional Athlete Development Camp in Kurtztown Pa. (near Trexlertown in eastern Pa.)
As most of you know from following Jimmy's progress as a rider and racer with us for the last few years, he has tremendous promise as a young racer. At just sixteen, and with only two years of racing, he has moved up to category 3 and shows signs of becoming the club's next "Big Dawg." While we have encouraged him and watched him progress, we were as excited as he was when USA Cycling invited him to the camp. As part of our developmental mission, the club footed half the camp fee. Jimmy has a laptop with him and we hope he finds time to send some dispatches for us to follow his progress. If we don't hear from him this week, I am sure he will have an update on his adventure when he returns.
