This past week the Akron area sponsored the State finals for the Senior Olympics, which was a qualifying event for the Nationals. In addition to track & field, tennis and just about any sport you can think of there were four cycling races scheduled over three days. Being a national qualifier, the contestants were very serious and concerned about the organization and safety of their individual events. I asked for some volunteers from the club because most of the people supplied by the organizers know little about racing. I want to thank Jimmy McDonald and Mike Smith for helping out. These guys gave up several hours of their time, when they could have been home watching the Tour. Jimmy even loaned his wheel to a rider who got a flat during the race. All the riders expressed their thanks to me afterwards for the work of the volunteers and how helpful they were. It's great to ride with guys like this.
