BIKE RIDERS IN THE SKY

4/25/04 by George Liolios

I guess that sometime I just have too much time on my hands. I first heard the song Ghost Riders in the Sky written by Stan Jones and performed by Dan Aykroyd and John Goodman in the movie Blues Brothers 2000. This is my spin on the song.

Bike Riders in the Sky

A bike rider went riding out One dark and windy day, Upon his bike he rested as He went along his way, When all at once a peleton Of red eyed riders he saw, A-hammering' through the ragged skies The paceline was in tow.

Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-yi-yo, Bike riders in the sky.

They rode as if on fire and Their bikes were made of steel, Their helmets were white and shiny and Their hot breath he could feel, A bolt of fear shot through him as He looked up in the sky, For he saw the riders comin' hard And he heard their mournful cry:

Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-yi-yo, Bike riders in the sky.

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, Their jerseys all soaked with sweat, They're riding hard to catch that break, But they ain't caught 'em yet, 'cause they've got to ride forever on That race up in the sky, On old bikes made of steel, as They ride on hear their cry:

Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-yi-yo, Bike riders in the sky.

The peleton loped past him and He heard one call his name, If you want to save your soul from hell A-riding on our course, Then, rider, change your ways today, Or with us you will ride, A-trying to catch the breakaway Across these endless skies.

Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-yi-yo, Bike riders in the sky.
