2004 UPDATE

1/5/2004 by Ted Ingraham

WOW! It is already the New Year. If you are like me, you have put cycling on the back burner in favor of eating and drinking the past few months....and I now realize my cycling life needs some attention!

Reminders of upcoming dates:

Friday, January 9th at 6:30 PM: Freewheeler Annual Banquet. Like last year, it will be at Papa Joe's Restaurant (at the base of Portage Trail in the valley), we will order from the menu, all Freewheelers, family, and guests are welcome, and it should (again) be a great time! George will be presenting awards and trophies for points and the TOP program, and I believe he has a few other surprises in store! We also have a 2003 skinsuit, Rudy merchandise, Rudy sunglasses, tires, and gift certificates that we will be raffling off. Should be an enjoyable evening and one of the few opportunities we have each year to socialize with clothes on.

Saturday, January 17, and February 7 and February 28: Indoor Training Sessions from 9:00 to Noon at the Cuyahoga Falls FOP Lodge on Hudson Drive. (same location as last year). Jim Mullins is putting together some challenging workouts and other training for us to keep sweating through the winter months. This is a great opportunity to improve your fitness as well as pick up a few pointers on racing and training technique. (Lodge opens at 8:00 so get there in time to set-up and be ready to start at 9:00 am)

Monday, January 19: Uniform Order Deadline See the website if you have any questions about the uniforms for 2004.....and be sure to checkout the helmet the club has included on the uniform order this year. The uniform design/colors will be similar to last year but you still want to take advantage of the huge discounts we have provided - thanks to help from Marty's and the club's healthy finances.

Membership Dues are Due: Send in your membership now and/or include it with your uniform order (you must be a 2004 member to get the uniform deal)

Riding: I haven't been riding a lot the past few months, and I know I'm not alone! But now its time to put on the woolies and get out and suffer in the cold - at least when its dry and not too frigid (that is above 25 for most of us) Six of us rode on New Years day (would have been 8 if we'd have found George and Russ) and 8 of us rode in the unseasonably warm but wet weather Saturday. Winter rides are a blast so get out and try it! Weekend rides normally start at 10:00 am Saturday and Sunday. Night rides at 6:30 this year. Since weather and schedules sometimes cause us to change the ride time, feel free to call me at 330-869-9658 if you want to verify if anyone is riding.

Hope to see everyone Friday!

Ted Ingraham
