ADCT races update

05/26/03 by Shawn Adams

This is a race update from the ADCT team. The first race was Wilksville road race on May 4th. The team at this race was Russ, Jim Mullins, Jim Gilmore, Angelo Catalano, Doug Hale, and Shawn Adams. The race is a Belgium Style race with three different loops through Wilksville. The loops get progressively harder. The total distance was 70 miles. There is 1.5 mile climb on the last loop. The race was calm on the first Kurmusse or first loop. The second loop some attacks started but nothing happened. Jim G. and Angelo covered this part of the race well. The action started in the rollers coming back toward town on the second lap. This thinned the field. ADCT lost Jim G., Russ and Doug. These team members did a great job controlling this part of the race. On the final Kurmusse Angelo got in a break with all of the big teams being represented so Jim M. and Shawn sat back in the field and waited to see if it would stick. This ended up coming back together as we approached the big climb. The field was down to about 18 to 25 riders from 55 at the start. A Savage Hill rider attacked and Shawn went with him. This ended up being the final move of the race. There was about 8 riders in this final move. The Savage Hill rider attacked again and no one responded. Of the 8 left one team had two riders left, but they would not chase. Shawn attacked this group bringing with him one rider from the team that would not chase. The Savage Hill rider had too big of a gap for Shawn to bridge alone, the other rider would not work with him. The results were Savage Hill first, Shawn second, and Jim M. 12th and Angelo 20th. The team worked well together and we had a good result. More updates soon.
