"The Blue Beast"

01/27/03 by George Liolios

I have raced and bike commuted for many years and during that time I have been able to keep a well-stocked stable of rides to choose from. My latest rig is the "Blue Beast", which I purchased from a local K-Mart store.

The store manager was not pleased as I took this dandy of a rig on an impromptu ride through the isles of the store. Nearly wiping out a display of "Blue Light " specials (the brakes needed major adjustments) as I brought this steed to not so elegant stop just inches from an un-amused store manager. I was able to negotiate on the price after I explained to the manager that to sell this bike without the proper adjustment was a major safety hazard and that I was more than capable of making those adjustments. For the handsome sum of $50.00 I was now the proud owner a blue, Randy mountain bike!

The "Blue Beast" is equipped with Falcon component's, one-piece Ashtabula cranks, reflectors on both wheels and on the front handlebar and seat-post, which is topped off with a stylish kickstand. The entire rig weighs in at a paltry 55 pounds!

So when the mercury dips below freezing, the roads covered in salt and snow turns to slush my neglected "Blue Beast, covered in axial grease, and road grime becomes my faithful beast of burden.
