SFW Meeting

July 27, 2002 by Ted Ingraham

We had an excellent turnout for the first meeting for the 2003 season. The meeting was an attempt to get an early start on plans for next season as well as give everybody a chance to express any interests or concerns that might be on their mind for next year.

Attending were Becky Blice, Ted Ingraham, Tricia Ingraham, Kurt Spenoso, Chad Brown, Ed Hurling, Steve Gulderman, Mike Smith, Angelo Catalano, Jim Gilmore, Mickey Rzymek, and Doug Hale.

Mickey was a great help by asking us to list all the events we tentatively plan for next year. This outline gives us a feel for how much planning we need to do and it will allow us to assign responsibility for members to share work on these events.

We also discussed sponsorship. It was decided a minimum sponsor goal this year will be $3,000 by the end of October. We will use the same basic sponsor materials from last year, modifying them for the new year. Denis will do a slight revision to the brochure he put together last year and send it by email to all members with a request to talk to anyone who could be a potential sponsor. Anyone who needs a hard copy can request it from Denis. Denis agreed to head-up sponsorship again this year and Mickey will assist. Mickey has extensive contacts and experience in obtaining sponsorship for athletic organizations.

We want to get an early start on the 2003 uniforms. Angelo has already done some preliminary work on plans for next year's kit. Once the sponsors are determined we will work on the uniform order. The goal will be to order uniforms by early January. If you have input on the uniform, please mention it to Angelo.

The race team was mentioned by Ted as a continuing major goal for the Club. This year the team came a long way and is definitely an organized force. The goal for next year is to continue what was started this year and to add more quality racers. The question was asked, What are the qualifications to be on the race team (Team Summit)? Ted stated the first is to be a Cat 3 (or higher) racer. Secondly, the racer must be accepted by the team. A further requirement would be a certain number of races the member has raced or will commit to for the year—a number the team will determine in their internal meetings.

The topic of new officers for next year was discussed. (With little input!) A nominating sheet was passed around. Denis was nominated to work on sponsors, Jim Mullins to head up the training efforts, and Angelo will repeat as VP Membership. We still need more ideas/volunteers for officers next year. If you have any interest, or if you want to nominate someone (get them to do the work so you won't have to!), please let Ted know. We will put out an official list with the nominations soon. The goal is to have new officers in place by the end of August.

It is still very early and everything is preliminary at this point, but it was good to get an early start on our plans for 2003. The next meeting will be Saturday, August 24, 2002, 7:30 am, at Brugger's.
