One word for this baby....HOT. The sun beatin' down on a technical figure 8, 8 corner crit course in the charming town of New Bremen made for a start temperature between 98 and 100 degrees. About 50 tried their hand at the event and some of those managed to finish.
The race was intense not just because of heat but because of the 15 or so primes put out in the 29 lap race. At one point there were 4 consecutive prime laps. Throw in plenty of wrecks and just about the whole town spectating and this was quite the show.
It was another nice effort by the team consisting of Shawn Adams, Chad Brown, Angelo Catalano, Jim Gilmore, Bryan Huntely, and Denis Osowski. Osowski spent his race getting on all the moves but on this day nothing was getting too far which was surprising given the technical nature of the course. However, it was probably the primes that helped the most to keep the race pace high and the break attempts shutdown. Several wrecks held up the other team members and effectively took them out of the race. Mr. Gilmore managed to stay away from the problems and made a few moves early but then sat in and saved for the inevitable pack sprint.
During the last two laps Osowski made an attempt off the front but didn't manage to move off, however, his move effectively strung the field out and prevented anyone else from escaping. This provided Gilmore with a good leadout in a frenzied pack sprint netting him a 7th place.
